RTTs

Work Package 4 (WP4) of this project is dedicated to educating and training Radiotherapy Technologists (RTTs) and dosimetrists in the application of newly developed guidelines from WP3. The training aims to enhance the current educational framework by integrating practical hands-on training with theoretical knowledge, which is often limited to vendor-provided or professional association offerings. This approach will include advanced techniques such as intensity-modulated and arc therapy proton treatment planning, with a focus on critical areas like patient positioning, image guidance, and treatment adaptation based on anatomical changes during therapy.

The main outcomes of WP4 will be a comprehensive list of existing basic and advanced proton therapy courses, alongside the development of an advanced educational module. This module will be created in collaboration with major professional bodies like EPTN of ESTRO, PTCOG, and ASTRO, aiming to standardize proton therapy education across Europe. The educational content will cover a broad spectrum of clinical and theoretical topics, ensuring a deep integration of the guidelines into daily clinical practice. The effectiveness of this educational initiative will be evaluated through both quantitative and qualitative measures, such as the number of course participants, the success of exchange programs, and participant feedback on the educational offerings. This structured educational framework is expected to significantly improve the skills and competencies of RTTs and dosimetrists, thereby enhancing the quality and safety of proton therapy.
