Project description
The TaSeRnet project aims to harmonize proton therapy practice across Europe by establishing a robust network for Radiation Therapists (RTTs) and dosimetrists. Our overarching goal is to unify and enhance the standards of proton therapy, ensuring high-quality proton therapy treatment for patients.
Specific Objectives:
- Identify Best Practices: We will identify and document best practice standards in proton therapy, incorporating insights from medical physics experts, engineers, and radiation oncologists.
- Develop Clinical Guidelines: Using these best practices, we will develop comprehensive clinical guidelines to standardize proton therapy procedures.
- Sustainable Learning Format: We aim to create a sustainable, lifelong learning format for RTTs and dosimetrists, centered around an advanced educational module on proton therapy.
Implementation:
To achieve these objectives, we have outlined a series of strategic activities:
- Exchange Programme: Develop and implement an exchange program for RTTs and dosimetrists to facilitate knowledge sharing and skill enhancement.
- Treatment Planning Challenges: Create and host treatment planning challenges to engage RTTs and dosimetrists in developing and refining best practices.
- Workshops: Organise workshops to provide a platform for discussing and exchanging views on best practices in proton therapy.
- Guidelines Development: Develop, publish, and implement guidelines based on the best practices identified, ensuring they are accessible and actionable.
- Advanced Training Programme: Set up an advanced training program specifically designed for RTTs and dosimetrists, focusing on cutting-edge proton therapy techniques.
- Web-Based Platform: Build a comprehensive web-based platform to support education, treatment planning challenges, guidelines dissemination, and exchange opportunities. This platform will serve as the core of our sustainable network, providing open access to all project results and facilitating communication among members.
Expected Results:
The TaSeRnet project is anticipated to deliver significant outcomes, including:
- Whitepapers: Publication of whitepapers detailing best practices in proton therapy, serving as a reference for practitioners across Europe.
- Clinical Guidelines: Comprehensive clinical guidelines that standardize proton therapy practice, ensuring consistency and high-quality patient care.
- Advanced Training Programme: A robust training program for RTTs and dosimetrists, enhancing their skills and knowledge in advanced proton therapy.
- Web-Based Platform: A dynamic web-based platform that will be the cornerstone of our sustainable network, offering open access to educational resources, guidelines, and facilitating ongoing communication and collaboration among RTTs and dosimetrists.
By achieving these results, TaSeRnet will significantly contribute to the harmonization and advancement of proton therapy practices across Europe, ultimately improving patient outcomes and fostering professional development within the field.
