Guidelines

Work Package 3 (WP3) in this project focuses on developing and disseminating guidelines for proton therapy procedures involving Radiotherapy Technologists (RTTs) and dosimetrists, aiming to enhance the uniformity and safety of treatment across European centers. These guidelines will draw on clinical evidence and consensus among experts, and are critical in areas where practice varies significantly between centers, ensuring that treatment safety is enhanced. The guidelines will cover various procedural steps such as patient positioning, scanning for treatment planning, plan evaluation, quality assurance, and more, and will be periodically updated to reflect new evidence and practices.

The main outcomes of WP3 will be the publication of at least seven major guidelines, which will be essential for standardizing practices and improving the safety and quality of proton therapy across Europe. These guidelines will be developed in collaboration with experts from relevant fields and will be made available through consortium websites and potentially in scientific journals. The success of WP3 will be measured using quantitative indicators such as the number of guidelines published and adopted across the EU, and qualitative indicators like approval by professional bodies and feedback from RTTs and dosimetrists. This comprehensive approach not only ensures the advancement of proton therapy standards but also supports the overarching goal of harmonizing proton therapy practice throughout Europe.
